It’s no secret that our hair benefits when we adopt a beauty routine and stick to it, especially during winter. If your hair has become dry and brittle, you’re not alone. Once those temperatures plunge and the air turns extremely dry, your hair becomes vulnerable because your strands cannot stay adequately hydrated. At Twisted Sisters Indianapolis hair salons, we’re sharing our best winter hair care rescues.
Avoid Frequent Shampooing
During the winter season, our hair care pros advise only washing your hair two or three times a week. Too much shampooing can strip your mane of its natural, protective oils.
Buy cans of dry shampoo to keep in stock. It’s an excellent remedy for getting the grease off the scalp and any limpness out of the strands. A few scented spritzes and volume comes back.
Lessen Your Heated Styling
Here at our fab hair salons Indianapolis, the blowdryer is a must-have, especially when our skilled stylists use the finest, professional tools around. When you’re at home, however, avoid overuse of heated hair tools. These styling gadgets can cause breakage and frazzled, dry ends during cold winter days.
Try heatless curlers, or explore the beauty of braids and buns to give your thirsty strands a break.
Apply Hair Oil
Argan and jojoba oils are some of the best for delivering nourished, healthy hair with an unbeatable shine. TV’s Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi has been using jojoba oil as a hair mask for years.
You can apply a few drops to the ends of your hair as a leave-in treatment, or you can use the oil as a hair mask and wash it out in the morning.
Lakshmi heats up about a quarter cup of jojoba oil in the microwave for 20 seconds and then massages it into her scalp and pulls it to the ends. “Then I French-braid my hair or just braid it tight, and I sleep with a towel on my pillow and let it soak in.”
Rub On A Dryer Sheet
Don’t laugh because here at our Indianapolis hair salons, we know that some of you have tried this clever hair hack and recommend it.
Winter static isn’t sexy for anyone’s hair, but it occurs because the air lacks moisture. Your hair needs moisture for movement, volume, and curl.
The quick remedy is to rub a dryer sheet like Bounce on your ends to calm down the static, flyaways, and frizz. It works instantly!
